7/7 is supposed to be lucky, or at least that’s what I’ve heard but it didn’t work out so well for me. After class I spent the whole afternoon sleeping because I was feeling a bit under the weather - the food had finally caught up to me. I wish I’d been a bit more with it in class though, we picked up our history right where we left off the day before and going to the museum had turned out to be a really helpful backgrounder. Later that night though, we had one of our dinners on the professors. It was AMAZING. There was so much food, we counted 9+ different dishes and all of it was delicious. To get there, we took the 83 bus from Slavija Square where we’ve been staying out to Zemun, technically part of New Belgrade but really its own little town on the water. We had some time before dinner to just sit by the river and I love it. I haven’t been to a beach in so long it was nice to just sit and feel the breeze and smell the salty air. For dinner there was a bunch of different types of salads, cheese, meats, the works. My favorites turned out to be the bread, no real surprise there, and the fish dish. It was some kind of white fish, who knows what, that was pretty good considering I don’t usually eat fish. The best part was it came with honest to goodness spinach and potatoes, foods we haven’t seen much of here. Then for dessert there was the richest chocolate ‘cake’ I’ve ever had. It was essentially a thick chocolate shell filled with gooey caramel, delicious. Too bad we were all so full from dinner than no one finished their dessert. We kept passing all the different options around the table to whomever had room left. Then we were off for a long walk along the river and some dancing at what turned out to be the celebration party for Miss Serbia 2011. Although it turned into a late late night, it was lots of fun!
